Thursday: Blueberry Picking

Thursday was the first day the weather was a little gloomy. It was really rainy in the morning - another good morning to sort of hang out and lay around. Justin had told us of a co-worker who had some property nearby with some blueberries we could pick (we got permission, of course :-)). We kept waiting for the rain to subside, because we really wanted to go. Finally it stopped for a bit, so we hopped in the car and when we got there, it started raining again. So, we decided to pick blueberries in the rain.
This was actually one of my favorite things we did while in Maine. Wild blueberries are a trademark of Maine, so it was just really neat to pick some and again be outdoors and enjoying nature. Although, it was very hilly property and, with the rain, also very muddy, so we had to abandon the van about half-way in. I was sure we were going to get stuck going out, but we made it!
When the rain picked up, we took turns watching the boys in the van, but if it hadn't been raining and if they boys had longer attention spans, I think I could have stayed out there picking all afternoon. Joyce, Dan, and Mom all did a really good share of picking and we each got to bring a good amount home, about 1/2 of a one-gallon zip lock back for each of us. Ours are in the freezer and I look forward to using them!
We almost did find the plants and after looking all around, looked down at our feet and saw them peeking out! Once we found them it was like they were everywhere. It was really fun treasure hunting and finding big bunches of them everywhere! Here are the rest of our blueberry pickin' pics.
