Yesterday was Gabe's second birthday. I can't believe he's two already! We had such a great day and the weather was just perfect! I worked from home yesterday instead of today so I could be with him on his special day. He definitely knew it was his birthday. Dan's been counting down with him for the last week or so, and when we'd ask what it was going to be in a few days, he'd say "BIRTHDAY!" He would also say "two" when we asked how old he was going to be.
We decorated a little bit with streamers and balloons so he would be excited when he woke up and then we made strawberry pancakes for his breakfast, which he loves. He got a sneak peak at his presents, which we wrapped and hid up on a kitchen cabinet, and when he saw them he said "presents - big one.." as in he wanted to open them right away.
He and I went to McDonald's for a Happy Meal for lunch and when we came back he wanted to swing in his swing for a while and ended up falling asleep in there! He hasn't fallen asleep in a swing since he was like 6 months old! So I took him upstairs and he took a nice nap (which was good because he hasn't been napping as regularly lately!). Dan got off early and we went to the zoo for a little bit and then to Chipotle for dinner. We made him a Bob the Tomato cake, which he recognized but didn't want to eat any of.
All in all it was a great day! He's talking a lot as usual. One of my favorite things is that he'll say "Hi, mom mom, how ya doin'?" and I'll say "fine, how are you?" and he'll say "fine." It's like we're having a little conversation. :-) Dan and I both put him to bed last night as a special birthday treat and he kept asking me to sing Happy Birthday until he was sleeping. :-) Here are some pics from the special day (note the expression of excitement for his new bubble gun!)
